I never had bath toys as a kid…so I guess it’s a parent thing, you want to give your kids what you never had. Baby H has a nice selection of squirty bath toys, and he seems to really love them – anything that makes the cleaning experience fun is fine by me.
I was sent this cute Tomy Aqua Pals Octopals set – this had been recommended to me before but I wondered if it was too big, too cumbersome for Baby H’s mini sized bath (he has a foldable bath which is fantastic).
Tomy Aqua Pals Octopals comes on a green floating base and 8 squirty little friends and a mummy octopus (in the centre). Kids can match up the little bulbs (they are numbered).
Each little Octopal is a suction/squirty toy and they work very well in that sense. They can also be stuck to the sides of the bath and tiles (with a bit of tight suctioning!) which the kids seem to love. They are also very bright and colourful which Baby H loves, and are soft enough for him to chew away at.
Mummy Octopus is a cup with holes in it, so you can fill her and lift her up to get that sort of leaky colander effect which Baby H absolutely loved and I quite liked, as I used it to rinse the shampoo from his head!!!!
This is recommended for babies at 12 months upwards – H is nearly 10 months and loves it (obviously always supervise when your baby is in the bath). He isn’t old enough to stick the toys back on to the green base though but that will come with time. At the moment he’s really happy with the little pieces that come with this toy.
The product is not too big for H’s small bath, and does’t get in the way. The base unit won’t fit too well into his bath net though (where I store his toys) although this isn’t a massive deal.
Getting this out was quite easy and painless – sometimes I am there for ages trying to get these damn toys out of the boxes (H has a lot of toys!). I got this out in a few minutes, before the bath could drop by a few degrees! (Thats a lack of planning for ya!).
Anyway – my verdict on toys can only come from how much H seemed to enjoy the toy and let’s face it, all kids are different and there’s not logical reason why they may love one toy or hate another.
H absolutely loves this new bath toy. Before this he had some squirty ones and some flashing ducks. He giggles like mad when I use the octopus mummy to drain water, and he loves it when I squirt water at him using one of the little octopals – he likes to grab them, chew them, throw them – etc. In many ways, I thought £10 for a bath toy was steep, but it comes with 10 parts essentially, so is very good value.
The added challenge of lining them up on the green bit (which H isn’t ready for) means its an educational toy too and it’s something he cal play with for a while.
The other thing is I hate toys that get dirty easily or take forever to sort out after they’ve been in the bath.
This set was quick to sort out after a bath – I grabbed each octopal and squeezed out excess liquid and stuck some on to the tiles!!! Same with the base, it’s chunky plastic so is easy to wipe soap scum off.
Super cute and good value bath toy – most important thing is H loves it, so I would definitely but further Tomy bath toys!
